Ray OF and Gold Glove finalist Kevin Kiermaier joined The Booger and Ryan Show to react to the news that Joe Maddon has opted out of his contract.

Kiermaier said he was surprised to hear that Maddon wasn’t going to be his manager anymore.

“It was a shock to me,” Kiermaier told Booger and Marc. “Caught me by surprise. I don’t know what the next step for him is going to be but I didn’t see that coming at all.”

Kiermaier said that Maddon works in mystery ways. His lineups, his attitude are different but Kiermaier said it always seems to work.

Despite the turmoil of Andrew Friedman and Joe Maddon leaving, Kiermaier said it doesn’t affect the players attitude that much. They’re still going to try to win no matter what.

Kiermaier said that the thing he’ll miss most about Maddon is his positivity. The rookie told Booger and Marc that even when the Rays were struggling, Maddon had a great attitude and told the team they were going to make some noise before the end of the season was over.

If there’s one things Kiermaier could tell Maddon, he said he would give him a big hug and “tell him thank you.”
