Greg Cosell from NFL Films joined Fan Interference as he does every Thursday and gave us his impressions of the Buccaneers performance against Carolina.

Greg said that Josh McCown was fairly average with his reads and the way he almost moved into the pressure of the defensive line. McCown was also guilty of mistakes that he should not have made for an NFL quarterback.

Another issue of the Bucs offense was the play of their O-line. Carolina used a lot of movement and pressure up front to confuse the line of the Buccaneers. A by-product of the offensive line issues was the play of Doug Martin. Cosell said that Martin was very stiff when running the ball and he also had a very difficult time in pass protection. Cosell said that the Buccaneers may need to put Bobby Rainey in the game more in order to give Josh McCown time to throw the ball.

On defense, the Buccaneers didn’t generate the kind of pressure that they wanted due to the Panthers game plan generating quick and safe passes that did not allow the Bucs to bring any kind of pass rush. Luckily for the Buccaneers this week, the Rams are not a dynamic offense, and with Shaun Hill banged up could face Austin Davis who Greg says is “not an NFL caliber quarterback”.
