LOS ANGELES (CBS) — CBS Daytime announced this week that “The Young and the Restless” alumni Shemar Moore, now starring on the network’s “Criminal Minds,” will return to the role that launched his career for two days in September.
Moore, who played often-shirtless photographer Malcolm Winters, will appear Sept. 10 and Sept. 11.
“Y&R” airs on CBS2 at 11:30 a.m. Monday – Friday.
Moore created the role in 1994 and quickly became one of the soap’s most popular players. Moore appeared on the show for 11 years (1994-2002 and 2004-2005). He won the Outstanding Supporting Actor Emmy in 2000.
He is also known for being the presenter who finally announced in 1999 that Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, “All My Children”) finally won an Emmy after 20 failed attempts. “The streak is over! Susan Lucci!!”
Unlike some daytime actors who have gone on to film or prime-time TV success, Moore has always made no secret about owing his acting career and success to the show that took a chance on an unknown with no acting credits.
Moore — then a model — was discovered by the soap’s then casting director from a small photo in GQ Magazine.
When he returns to “Y&R,” Moore will be re-teamed with on-screen brother Neil, played by Emmy-winner Kristoff St. John.
In the current story, Neil has just married a woman who had come to town to destroy him and that woman, in turn, has the hots for his son and vice-versa. Messy, messy.
“I am excited about returning to ‘Young and Restless’ as a special guest,” said Moore. “This is where I got my start, and I am looking forward to reuniting with my soap opera family.”
Moore, 44, has been on “Criminal Minds” since that show premiered in 2005.
His other credits include TV’s “Living Single,” “Moesha,” “Chicago Hope,” and the movies “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” and “Butter.”
