While reports surfaced on Tuesday morning, the signing of DE Michael Johnson to a 5-year deal as free agency began Tuesday afternoon seems to have come to fruition.

Johnson’s deal can not become official until Johnson passes a team physical, which he is expected to take on Wednesday morning. According to Johnson’s agent, Johnson is on his way to Tampa on Tuesday night.

Johnson’s deal is reportedly worth $43.75 million with $24 million guaranteed.

Johnson was rated as the 3rd best free agent available on NFL.com. He was also to give the Buccaneers a deal by focusing solely on them.

Rumors that the Bucs had been fervently pursuing Johnson picked up steam yesterday, along with speculation regarding the now-expected release of DB Darrelle Revis, which if reports are correct will take place at 4pm unless the Bucs can find a last-minute trade partner for the Pro Bowl corner.

Johnson is considered the premier pass rusher in this year’s NFL free agent class. Over the past two seasons with the Bengals, he collected 15 sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and over 100 tackles.
