Greg Schiano has been flying high the past couple weeks. Then again, that’s what winning does. Winning allows people within a team to become much more confident than maybe their overall record would suggest they be.
Distractions are a thing of the past. Well, at least that’s what Greg Schiano would like.READ MORE: CDC Recommends Everyone Wear A Mask In Public Places
Whether it has been Josh Freeman’s photo miss, the Freeman captaincy rigging, the Bucs under Schiano being compared to Cuba, constant disrespect shown towards the fans, or the MRSA that infiltrated One Buc Place, the Bucs have definitely had their fair share of distractions this year.
Dave Birkett, the Lions beat writer for the Detroit Free Press, stands by his claim that Greg Schiano abandoned his conference call.
So, what could have made Schiano’s temperature rise higher than the 71.3 degrees he insists his meeting rooms stay at?
“There’s so much misinformation about that whole issue not just in our instance, but in general,” Schiano said when asked about MRSA by the Detroit media. “The MRSA’s everywhere. It’s a matter of practicing good habits and hygiene and all that stuff. Yeah, I think we’re doing fine with that.
“Unfortunately, it affected some of the players, their health, and it affected, certainly, our environment around here as far as distractions go, both of those things.”
“I’m glad that’s in the rearview mirror and this team is doing nothing but looking forward.”
Then…a few more words.
“Well guys, I appreciate it and I’ll see you on Sunday.”
The audio is attached to the bottom of this story. To me, it doesn’t sound nearly as bad as what’s being reported, but Yahoo’s Anwar Richardson gives some more details of the “behind-the-scenes” process of a conference call.
“By the way, public relations staff members routinely sit next to their coaches during every conference call, and if Schiano’s time constraints were an issue, they could have immediately addressed it after he hung up. Even better, they could have informed the media Schiano was on a tight schedule before the call, but considering he ended the conversation without any notice, it appears to be just another unprofessional Schiano moment in Tampa Bay.”
The Detroit media tried to get an answer from the Buccaneers on the abrupt hang up.
It’s a shame that even during a 2-game win streak, the Bucs can’t stay away from negative publicity.
