“Our new single ‘Kiss You Inside Out’ is actually a really sweet song,” Hoggard said. “It was one of those moments where you’re finished making a record and you’re like, ‘Well that’s it, we’re done. No more songs go on this record.’ And then a couple of months go by and you write a song and you’re like, ‘Oh man, this needs to be on the record.’ We’re doing a rerelease of it, we made sure we could fit it on and repackaging the whole deal. That’s just really exciting for us because it’s something that we’ve never done before.”READ MORE: Fourth Stimulus Check: Will You See Another Relief Payment Soon?
Hedley are known for their uplifting, anthematic songs, like “Invincible” and “Perfect,” both of which have earned millions of YouTube views. With “Kiss You Inside Out” the guys put falling in love at the forefront. The video, however, is a little more violent.
“We’re actually going to be releasing the video for it next week on VH1…We describe it as love at first fight,” explained guitarist Dave Rosin. “Lovers find themselves in a car crash and everything flashes before it, everything you go through in a relationship. Because when you do actually meet somebody that you do dig and love it really does feel like that and it happens really quick.”
Where did Hedley find the inspiration to write such an ultra romantic love song? Hoggard was close-mouthed on who or what the muse might be, instead invoking science to explain the sentiment behind the track.READ MORE: 'The Sweetest Thing': 10-Year-Old Phillies Fan Goes Viral For Giving Foul Ball To Crying Girl
“This is the type of a song that really embodies that sentiment that a lot of us feel and have a hard time describing,” said Hoggard. “It often takes place early on in a relationship where you seem overwhelmed with an infatuation that gives you these really crazy ideas where you feel capable of loving somebody so thoroughly that it transcends the physics of the situation — in terms of “Kiss You Inside Out,” essentially.”
He did, however, admit to an infatuation with floppy haired romcom star Hugh Grant. Perhaps he’s been marathon watching Bridget Jones’ Diary or Love Actually?
“50 Things I Hate About You? No, it’s not [inspired by a romcom] and I shouldn’t have such a comprehensive knowledge of romantic comedies,” Hoggard joked. “But Hugh Grant, I mean wow what a man and what an actor. Just kidding. I’m kidding. I’m kidding about this and please strike these last two questions from the record.”
