Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans are excited to see what LeGarrette Blount can do behind a strong and powerful offensive line. However, with the selection of Doug Martin in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Blount’s future could be growing uncertain.
Evan Silva of Rotoworld joined Justin Pawlowski on The Commish to discuss the impact that Blount, Martin and the other running backs will have in 2012 behind a revamped Buccaneers offensive line and learning a new offensive scheme.READ MORE: Elon Musk Explores The Limits Of Tesla's 'Self-Driving' Technology
“I think that Legarrette Blount is going to be weeded out of this offense,” Silva said. “I don’t think he’s going to be a very good system fit in Tampa Bay.”
Blount is seen as a one-dimensional running back who has trouble catching passes, picking up blitzers on passing downs and fumbling the football. He has fumbled nine times on 385 career carries.
Along with questions about Blount’s ability in this system, Silva looked at the possibility of Blount getting the majority of his carries in the fourth quarter when the Buccaneers try to preserve a lead.READ MORE: Baby Formula Arrives In Indianapolis From Germany On US Military Aircraft
“There’s been some discussion of LeGarrette Blount being a closer running back or the clock killer. But that’s not a role that fits him very well considering his fumbling issues,” Silva said. “The last thing you want in a ‘keep the lead’ back is a guy who’s going to give the ball to the opponent.”
Apart from some criticisms of Blount, Silva gave high praises to both of the running backs the Buccaneers drafted in this year’s draft. He compared Doug Martin to Ahmad Bradshaw, given Martin’s reputation of not being a very well-rounded player.
He also applauded the Buccaneer’s 2012 selection of running back Michael Smith in the seventh round.
Silva said “One guy that I’m going to be keeping a close eye on in the preseason is Michael Smith. He should have been a higher draft pick. He runs sub 4.4 and he’s not afraid to run inside the tackles. I thought that was a heck of a pick. I’m excited to see what he does in August.”MORE NEWS: CoolToday Park Announces 2022 Movie Nights
