This is a very special place with an old-world feel. You may find it hard to watch the movie that you are there to see because you are taken back by the gorgeous interior of the theater. The Tampa Theatre is a historic U.S. theater and city landmark in downtown Tampa. On January 3, 1978, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Theatre features a wide range of independent, foreign, and documentary films on a daily basis, as well as some big box office movies.

Interesting Facts: The Tampa Theatre opened in 1926! Besides being architecturally stunning both inside and out, the theatre was the first commercial building in Tampa to offer air conditioning. This fact gave the theater even more appeal during Florida’s sweltering summers. It has also periodically been used as a backdrop for movies, MTV videos and local programming.

TIP: Sit in the lower deck. The acoustics in the balcony made the movie a little difficult to hear.
