On Memorial Day, May 26, 2014, Lowry Park Zoo will admit active and retired military, as well as military veterans, into the zoo for free. Just be sure to bring your military ID card. In addition to the military member, three dependents may get in free as well. Come out to the Lowry Park Zoo and enjoy the day with your military member on this glorious Memorial Day.

The Upper Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 6th annual Freedom Fest. This three-day event takes place on State Street in Oldsmar from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on May 23rd, noon until 10 p.m. on the 24th and noon to 8 p.m. on May 25th. There will be live music, lots of food, arts and crafts vendors and tons of activities for the young and the young at heart. Also planned for this event are tributes to all of the American heroes: firemen, police, first responders, as well as active, retired and veterans of the military. Cost of this celebratory event is only $2 per person, with children 12 and under getting in free.

The 6th Annual Memorial Day Funfest takes place on Monday, May 26, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Armed Forces History Museum. The cost is only $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages four to 12. Visitors can enjoy the rock climbing wall, power bungee jumping, bounce houses, military dress-up, face painting and more. Visitors can also buy tickets for a ride on the fully restored World War II M8 Greyhound Reconnaissance Vehicle at an additional cost. As always, snacks, food and drinks are available for purchase. Come out and celebrate Memorial Day by walking through the Armed Forces History Museum and seeing what Memorial Day is all about.

American Legion USS Tampa Post 5 and the American Legion Cemetery Corporation are working together again this year to present a Memorial Day Ceremony to honor those serving in our country’s military for all they have done over the years. As in the past, this year’s ceremony will feature a luminary service on May 25, 2014 at 8 p.m. On Memorial Day, May 26th, there will be a Memorial Day service starting at 11 a.m. There will be guest speakers and remembrance wreath announcements, followed by refreshments in the Legion Hall immediately after the program. This is an opportunity to give thanks for the sacrifices made by our military members.
