The Tampa Bay area has a fast growing vegetarian and vegan population that love to eat out. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find restaurants that cater only to the non-meat eaters. The good news is there are quite a few meat serving eateries that also have large vegetarian and vegan menus, in addition to gluten-free choices.

This downtown Tampa Vietnamese restaurant has a large vegetarian and vegan friendly menu that is rich in favor and originality. Rice paper rolls and Pho are their specialties but they also serve curries and huge vegan salads. They have free Wi-Fi, outdoor seating and are wheel chair accessible.  Closed Sundays.

Vegetarian Indian restaurant featuring authentic South Indian cuisine. Many items are served with dairy, so vegans must inquire.  All items on the menu are less than $10. Best Best – Try their Avail Curry with garden fresh vegetables, coconut sauce and Indian spices, the taste is incredible. A children’s menu is available.

This completely vegetarian and vegan friendly bistro is located in downtown St. Petersburg. They serve Middle Eastern vegetarian food with a culinary flair. Trendy, inexpensive and delicious. Open seven days at week for lunch and dinner. They even have a brunch menu. Beer and wine available as well as micro-brews.

This is Pinellas County’s only 100% vegan Vietnamese restaurant. The prices are extremely reasonable, with meals ranging from $5.95 to around $8. The goi cuon- spring rolls, the pho soup and tofu curry with noodles are out of this world.  Every two weeks Lotus hosts a huge Vegan All You Can Eat Buffet for only $9.99.

Queen of Sheba serves Ethiopian food  which is mainly vegetarian and is very vegan and gluten-free friendly.  They have a extensive veggie menu that includes both spicy and mild flavors. Try the vegetarian tikikl gomen, or the Queen’s eight platter, which can be ordered for one person or up to four people. This combination platter can be made mild or spicy and can include all vegetarian dishes upon request. All dishes are served over injera (they have gluten-free injera too) with extra on the side so you don’t miss one delicious bite. After you eat, you can wind down with a hot cup of bunna or Ethiopian coffee or browse the shop in the front of the restaurant.

One of the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants on the beach featuring an all raw food menu.  They also serve smoothies and fresh juices. Best Bet – Mini Tacos with romaine leaves topped with taco meat made from almonds and walnuts, cilantro cashew cheese, pico de gallo and sliced avocado. Big eaters will love the Sicilian Lasagna – Eggplant and zucchini noodles layered with tomato sauce, ricotta nut cheese, mushrooms, topped with pine nut Parmesan cheese. Monthly Raw Vegan Potlucks and indoor and outdoor seating.

Loving Hut is the fastest growing international vegan chain of restaurants with over 120 branches worldwide. Try their plump summer rolls with fresh salad, tofu, carrot, jicama, and fresh chips. Veggie burger lovers will go crazy over the Loving Hut Burger made with homemade vegan burger patty and all the veggie toppings you can pile on. Pasta lovers will delight in their Vegan Ball Spaghetti or Tahini Summer pasta. They even have vegan desserts like Carrot Cake made with organic cane sugar and vanilla extract. They also organize local vegan meet ups.

Rouen Thai is a South Tampa vegan, vegetarian and macrobiotic friendly restaurant. Although, they do serve meat dishes there is a large and diverse vegetarian menu. Try their Sauteed Tofu with bean thread and mixed vegetables, Amazing Egg plant with peanut sauce, or Mixed Vegetables Panang Curry. They even have Siam Tofu with thai chili sauce. Lunch specials include an appetizer, soup of the day, and steamed rice.  Make sure you try the Thai Sweet Iced Tea. Kid friendly.

Bawarchi is one of the only Indian restaurant north of Clearwater. They have a lunch buffet during the week – with 3-4 vegetarian entrees each day. Every Tuesday night there is an all-vegetarian dinner buffet for only $11.95.
