There’s something heavenly about a delicious piece of beef cooked to perfection. We went looking past the national chains to find our list of the best steakhouses in Tampa, which includes Bern’s, Iavarone’s and Shula’s.

They’ve been serving up delicious steaks at Bern’s for more than 50 years, so it’s no surprise that they are experts at their craft. Their waiters go through more than a year of training (both in the restaurant and on the farm where their vegetables are grown organically and pesticide-free) before they serve you. If you can, you may enjoy a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar. All this however is secondary to enjoying their amazing steaks and ludicrously deep wine list (literally thousands of bottles). Their menu offers you the opportunity to define the desired thickness and weight of your preferred cut of steak, prices adjust accordingly. Hey, the place is practically a Tampa legend, so dive in and enjoy. Reservations are required, and be sure to follow the dress code.

Iavarone’s offers an Italian twist on the classic steakhouse experience. In addition to enjoying some USDA prime wet-aged beef, you can get some delicious pasta as well, or indulge in their “Bada Bing Shrimp,” served in their signature spicy, creamy sauce. The place is a favorite with locals, so expect to see a core group of regulars when you go. The prime rib is recommended.

Alright, it is a chain, but it is a chain local to Florida. What makes their steaks special is their method of pit cooking over mesquite, oak and orange wood. The steak tartar appetizer is recommended, as is their popular 20 ounce “Fab Filet” Mignon (come hungry). Their wine list is extensive, but the wood-flavored steaks will capture your taste buds, and leave you eager to return.
