Think outside the cup. You do not need to speak French nor support a large corporation to enjoy a hot cup of coffee in a cool atmosphere. If you are looking for some of the best locally roasted coffee in the Tampa Bay area, you have an amazing selection.
New Harmony Coffee & Tea
1947 Drew St.
Clearwater, FL 33765
New Harmony is a store in two parts — one section is a retail store dedicated entirely to coffee roasting equipment. Amateur coffee roasters that are interested in learning the business or just acquiring a new hobby can check out nearly 1,200 different roasters, filters and other related equipment. The other section of the store is the cafe, in which baristas focus on single-origin coffees and blends. If you’re wondering what to try first, try the house blend or the Go Espresso, which are the two best sellers.
Mazzaro’s Italian Market
2909 22nd Avenue N
St. Petersburg, FL 33713
Mazzaro’s is way more than just coffee — it is an Italian paradise of food, including fresh hand-made pasta, an imported cheese shop, a huge bakery and so much more. Inside this bustling store is a coffee bar that serves up lattes, espresso, cappuccino and gourmet coffees made from beans that are roasted fresh daily. The beans come from all over the world and include Colombian, Mexican and Ethiopian beans. You can even take a pound home with you.
5731 East Fowler Ave.
Temple Terrace, FL 33617
Cafe Kili is named for Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania on the African continent. The shop’s owners, who are from a rural part of Kenya, opened Cafe Kili in 2007 to introduce the coffee of their homeland to the Tampa area. The shop specializes in single-origin coffees that come from Colombia, Brazil, Ethiopia and, of course, Kenya. The beans have a strong floral aroma and a cinnamon-like flavor and produce a rich, flavorful brew. For a real treat, try the Kenyan AA coffee. This spot’s experience in small-batch coffee roasting keeps patrons caffeinated every day.

2020 W. Kennedy Blvd.
Tampa, FL 33606
Coffee roasting started out as a hobby for coffeepreneur Dave and his wife, Susan. When they started roasting their own beans in their garage and giving out bags of the stuff to their friends with the label “Buddy Brew,” named after their dog, the name stuck. The Buddy Brew coffee shop, which opened in 2012, now offers all types of coffee made from freshly roasted beans, including Ethiopian, Brazilian and Sumatran blends. The shop has a casual, urban atmosphere to it, and the giant coffee roaster is visible to all, right in the middle of the room.
Kahwa Coffee Roasting
475 2nd St. N.
St. Petersburg, FL 33701
True coffee snobs know that freshness counts — and so does Kahwa. This shop focuses on creating original blends rather than just serving single-origin coffees, and in order to do it right, Kahwa pre-blends green coffee beans before roasting to allow the flavors to mingle together. These signature blends include espresso, decaf, a light blend and a medium-dark blend, along with a “Blend of the Week.” All coffees are fair-trade and are available in bulk so you can enjoy the freshness of Kahwa in your own home.
