Tampa Bay is mostly known for it’s beaches and sports teams, however it’s quickly gaining a reputation for it’s growing number of brewpubs on both sides of the bay. What’s a brewpub? It’s a bar or restaurant that makes their own beer to be consumed on premises.

Tampa Bay Brewing Company

Ybor City (Tampa), FL 33605
TBBC is Ybor City’s only microbrewery. They have many award-winning brews including a Iron Rat Imperial Stout, a full-bodied beer with overtones of coffee, roast and chocolate. The menu includes plenty of sports-fan approved foods, like burgers, wings and pizza. There are also numerous foods for the more sophisticated foodie.
Sea Dog Brewing Company

This north Pinellas county outpost of the award-winning New England brewery serves small-batch specialty brews made on premises, including a tasty cask-conditioned ale. This large and roomy Brewpub is perfect for watching sports as you down a beer or two. Their Sea Dog’s Maine style seafood and raw bar is top notch and they have five killer burger to choose from.
Peg’s Cantina & Brewpub

Gulfport, Florida, 33707
Ratebeer.com recently placed Earthy Peg’s Cantina among the top 5 brewpubs in all of Florida. They brew 9 different beers and a couple of seasonal ones as well. Peg’s Cantina is home to one of the highest-rated beers in the world -a Rare DOS – along with a developing style called Florida Weiss. Their brews rang from IPAs, brown ales to lagers, pumpkin beer and sours. Peg’s food features thin crust pizzas and Mexican food that are all made fresh and to order.

Cigar City Brewpub

This Carrollwood brewpub makes great beer and food. Cigar City Brewpub’s Tocobaga Red Ale won Grand Champion at the 2012 United States Beer Tasting Championship. The food is Tampa-Style Cuban that also wins high marks from patrons. They have 11 of their own brews on tap with 3 or 4 guest taps. Their drafts range in price from $5 – $7 for a pint.

Dunedin Brewery is Florida’s oldest Microbrewery. They serve 9 year-round brews and 7 limited release brews on tap. In the summer cool off with their Flashlight Lager, light blonde Pilsner. They serve great wings, tacos, burritos and pulled pork sandwiches with beer infused BBQ sauces to go along with their award winning craft beer. They are also well know for the live music and jam nights.

Treasure Island, FL 33706
The R Bar on Treasure Island is the smallest brewpub on our list. This casual and beachy eatery has three rotating drafts made in their kitchen. These drafts are surprisingly good for such a humble establishment. The R Bar is home to the beaches best and most affordable “All You Can Eat” specials including Peel & Eat Shrimp and Snow Crab.
