The Pier Debate on The Current
The future of St. Petersburg’s landmark Pier has emerged as one of the most divisive issues in the city’s recent history. It’s been heatedly discussed in public hearings, on social media, in coffee shops and on front porches.
At the center of it all is The Lens, a proposed design that has both enchanted and enraged a city at a crossroads. With a citywide vote on The Lens’ future looming on August 27, there have been no public debates between the two sides on this monumental project – until now.
Concerned Citizens of St. Petersburg (Stop the Lens)’s Bud Risser and Bill Ballard faced off against Citizens for the St. Pete Pier (Build The Pier) supporters Lisa Wannemacher and City Councilmember Jeff Danner in the first – and only – debate on The Pier before St. Pete decides, hosted by Franco Ripple.
This debate originally aired Sunday, August 18 and will re-air this weekend on Sunday, August 25. See below for the complete schedule.
We asked YOUR questions sent via social media on-air, so don’t miss your one chance to hear from both sides at the same time before the August 27 election!
