Gov. Rick Scott kicked off a series of visits to Florida public schools Monday to promote the approved budget that includes teacher pay raises as part of a big boost in education spending, a perennially popular issue with voters who will decide in 2014 whether the Republican merits a second term.

State House Approves $69.2 Billion Budget That Adds $1.1 Billion to Schools

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida House on Thursday voted along partisan lines in favor of a bare-bones $69.2 billion budget for the coming year.

Scott to Stress Cooperation in State of State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Gov. Rick Scott plans to present a theme of cooperation during his second State of the State address Tuesday, but will say there’s one issue that’s non-negotiable: raising education spending by $1 billion.
