Rich Herrera

Rich Solo

Rich will be taking you home starting at 3 p.m. and into the evening alongside his buddy, ex-Buc Booger McFfarland! They will feature local sport stars and big names on the national scene just as well. You’ll want to be sure to tune when the show starts to catch great interviews, Booger’s Top 5 at 5 and more!

As Tampa Bay Rays fans can attest, Rich has been a fixture at Tropicana Field for seven seasons as the team’s pre and post-game show host (also filling in as play-by-play) announcer since 2005. Rays fans could always hear Rich as he conducted on-field player interviews after a Rays win, before he began his post-game show from the stadium’s Brew House and then later upstairs from the Batters Eye.

Rich brought the Rays Republic inside every Rays locker-room celebration in team history. He was the first to talk to Joe Maddon on the radio during the Rays landmark run in 2008, when they clinched the AL East that year in Detroit, and for all champagne bath in Chicago after the Rays beat the White Sox to advance to the ALCS that season.  Fans listened to Rich during the highs and lows of the ‘08 ALCS battle against Boston, including the crushing Game Five loss at Fenway and the Rays finest moment: newcomer David Price coming in to beat the BoSox and send the Rays to the World Series. Rich has a wealth of big-league baseball knowledge, rooted in covering three different big league teams: the Rays, the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics. And he continues to cover the MLB beat as a featured host on MLB Network Radio.

But here’s something you might not know about Rich:  He’s one of the most versatile sports radio hosts in the country, with experience in both major market and national sports radio. He worked in both San Francisco at KNBR the No. 1 sports station in the U.S. at the time, but also was a fixture in the Southern California market–named one of the Top 10 sports hosts by the Los Angeles Daily News. Rich’s national work includes shows on Sports Fan Radio Network and Prime Sports Radio, and he was one of the original hosts at Fox Sports Radio when the network launched in 2000.

His resume includes being a sideline reporter covering the NFL and NCAA football for Sports USA Radio for eight season. He has also patrolled stadium sidelines in the NFL from Raymond James to Lambeau Field to Arrowhead.  On the NCAA beat, he has worked games at the Swamp, Doak Campbell, the Orange Bowl, the Horseshoe in Ohio, and LSU’s Death Valley. For a short time, Rich was even a columnist for the San Francisco Examiner.

He has covered the NBA (hosting the Warriors post-game show), championship fights in Vegas, the PGA tour, and the NHL. Outside of his disdain for soccer, there are very few sports in America that he hasn’t been around – including NASCAR.

Rich lives in St. Petersburg with his wife Elizabeth and middle schooler Rigney. He is involved in many local charities including Northeast Little League, the Children’s Dream Fund and the Wounded Warrior Foundation, among many others.

RICH’S VIEW: “I’m thrilled to have the chance to have a daily dialogue with Bay Area sports fans and be part of this fantastic winning lineup on 98.7 The Fan. Sit back and tune in – we’re going to have a blast!”
