A gas leak in a 4-inch line at 14th Street and 7th Avenue North near downtown St. Petersburg cause the evacuation of nine homes.

Around 5 p.m. the leak had been fixed but officials are not sure when they can lift the evacuation and allow residents to return. They are waiting for the gas levels to dissipate.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office states, between February 16, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. and February 20, 2012 at noon, a suspect stole this white on yellow classic car from a detached garage. The garage is located at 1802 St. Cloud Avenue in Valrico.

The theft report states,”the vehicle has custom air brushed murals on both sides as well as “Hollywood Knights” on the rear cargo door. Under the hood of the vehicle is a polished stainless steel plate with an etched photograph of the vehicle in a scenic setting. With a Florida Tag number of L473LT.”

The House passed the bill (SB 2) on Friday. It goes back to the Senate which earlier passed it because of some changes made by the House.

DNA testing cleared William Dillon of the Brevard County murder, but he didn’t qualify for automatic compensation due to a prior drug conviction.

Senate President Mike Haridopolos, a Merritt Island Republican, sponsored the bill and made it a top priority this year and last.

Time expired in the 2011 session before the House could vote on it, although it passed in the Senate.

Gigi’s Italian Restaurant sits in a small strip mall off of 4th Street in northeast St. Pete. The sign from the road was well-lit and easy to see, which is important when not familiar with the area. Their parking in front of the restaurant was limited, but I discovered a large well-lit lot in back.

Once inside Gigi’s, I was surprised but impressed by the non-traditional look and feel of this Italian restaurant. The granite bar was surrounded by rich dark wood with beautiful glass pennant lighting, which gave the bar area plenty of mood lighting.

Once seated our waitress appeared.  She was a perky twenty-something named Kimberly. She welcomed us with a big smile and chirped sweetly, “Welcome to Gigi’s and Wine Wednesdays”. She explained that on Wine Wednesday all wine is half off from open til close. Always a deal hunter, I got so excited about the wine discount that I nearly overturned the table.

Once the table was stabilized and my date stopped laughing,  I told Kimberly that I was interested trying a Pinot Noir. She suggested her favorite a 2009 David Bruce from California’s Sonoma Coast.  She pointed out this was her favorite wine because it was spicy. That sparked my interest, so I ordered a bottle along with a Classic Caesar Salad and a Margherita pizza.

From the minute I tasted this Pinot Noir I was in a heavenly grape induced trance. This wine was full, rich and spicy! I wasn’t sure what spices were used, so I used my

iPhone to look up information about the wine. The vineyard’s description of their Pinot Noir states, ” it’s an expression of red cherry, cranberry and plum coupled with lingering notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and a subtle hint of clove.”

Kimberly told us when she drinks this Pinot she loves to put pepper in it. Startled but intrigued, I sprinkled a little into my glass. The little cutie was right! It was good. I’m sure true connoisseurs would shake their heads at this daring addition to a perfect glass of wine but, what the heck you only live once.

As I sat back in my chair I realized my mission to decompress from my middle of the work week worries had been accomplished. I had again found another great wine escape at Gigi’s with this spicy Pinot Noir.

If you prefer a more traditional red wine with your Italian food, I would suggest one of their many well priced Chianti’s.

Gazing around the room, I noticed the bar action had a lively and diverse crowd. Many were just locals catching a bite to eat and chatting with others. The majority of the clientele was 35 and over, which didn’t bother me. I wasn’t looking for a young pick-up bar scene. I was looking for a wine and food escape mixed with some mingling. It would appear I was the majority in that pursuit.

The female singer Misty added a jazzy undertone to the evening. Her singing was smooth and light so as to not drown out conversation. I was impressed by Misty’s voice and selection of songs. She even took requests. Two couples even got up for a romantic slow dance to a Sade song.

Our salad came out fairly quick. My Date and I both enjoyed the Caesar Salad. I honestly admit I am a picky eater. I like Caesar dressing to be fresh, tangy and light on the anchovy taste. Plus, I only like romaine hearts in my salad.  I was relieved to discover Gigi’s doesn’t serve the tops of the romaine leaf.

Our Margherita pizza was incredible. It was juicy and loaded with fresh basil and thinly sliced tomatoes. The pizza was thin crust and had a generous amount of fresh hot mozzarella that stretched into long cheesy strings when served.  My date almost keeled over when Kimberly served it onto our plates…he insisted  he was looking only at the pizza!

During our meal one of the owners Cyndi Shain came by to ask us how our food and wine was. She explained  that Gig’s was a family business and that they had four locations with the 4th Street being the largest of the restaurants. I could this restaurant was her passion.  It showed on her face and in the way that the staff smiled and provided great serve.

I would highly recommend Gigi’s on 4th street in St. Petersburg. It’s a great escape for a fun night on the town.  They serve traditional Italian food and wine at a great prices, especially on Wine Wednesdays!

Our  2009 David Bruce Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is normally $12 a glass and $41 a bottle. On “Wine Wednesday” it is $6 a glass and $20.50 a bottle.  Our giant Margherita thin crust pizza was $16.97. My date and I split a large Caesar for $9.

According to an incident report provided to CBS Tampa by the Ocala Police Department, authorities arrived on scene at The Vines Hospital on Wednesday afternoon to find a boy with his wrist wrapped in gauze and his arm hooked up to an IV.

“[The victim] advised that he was on his bed and [a boy] started stabbing him in his back,” the report states. “He turned over to fight him off and then he saw what he thought was a white fluorescent light … [the boy] got his arm when he turned over.”

When the bulb broke, the perpetrator allegedly resorted to hitting the victim in the face.

The aggravated teen told authorities that he was angry with the victim for calling him names. To exact revenge, he sharpened the bulb to a point and attacked the boy with it.

“I asked what he was thinking when he was doing this and he said that he wanted to kill him,” the report continues.

The boy also allegedly tried to stab staff member Edward Porter with a pen. Porter did not press charges, and instead spoke with the boy further about the attack.

“Porter also indicated that after [the boy] attacked … [he] said that he was ‘bored’ and he wanted to hurt [the victim] so he could go to prison,” the report indicates. “He wanted to go … so he could see his boyfriend ‘Jim.’ When I asked him why he was in the program at the Vines, [the boy] stated that he stabbed his step father because he put Jim in prison.”

Sheriff’s officials say 35-year-old Deputy Ray Sajko Jr. was arrested Thursday on charges of withholding information from a practitioner. He is a 15-year veteran of the department.

Sheriff’s investigators got a tip from a pharmacist late last year and began looking into allegations that Sajko was doctor shopping.

Records show that nine times Sajko saw physicians at two different locations within a 30 day period. He received pain prescriptions for from both clinics.

An arrest affidavit states physicians at both locations were unaware Sajko was receiving prescriptions elsewhere.

The sheriff’s office says Sajko admitted to using the medications. They say there is no evidence he sold the drugs.

PowerBar and Stonyfield Farm are among about a half dozen companies who’ve signed up to get the healthy button on their websites.

If a website visitor clicks on the healthy button, it broadcasts their approval of a product or a service to their friends on Runkeeper’s site.

RunKeeper had been testing out the button on its own site.

RunKeeper first started off as an iPhone app for runners but is planning to become a global fitness platform.

Doctors say in a stressful world, it’s more important than ever because carrying anger or resentment just adds to anxiety.

What’s more, retention of negative emotions of anger and hatred undermine our physical health or mental health, and not surprisingly, our spiritual well-being.

That’s the theory behind the book “The Forgiveness Project” by Rev. Michael Barry.

Rev. Barry actually considers the “inability to forgive” a disease which can affect our health, especially if you’re fighting a long-term illness.

“We know chronic anxiety and distress causes your digestive system to under-function, we know it effects our cardiovascular system, but it also affects our immune system.”

On the streets of Boston, people agree that holding on to anger has consequences.

Some young women we spoke with compared it to “poison” and even said they believe it endangers heart health.

Rev. Barry says there are no magic steps to forgiving, but he does say we can find forgiveness by understanding our desire to forgive, our humility, our spirituality and admitting when we are angry.

“Knowing forgiveness,” says Barry “is at least teaching people some coping skills when we know we eventually are going to find wounds and bumps and grinds along the way.”

He says once you forgive, you release the burden of hatred and only then can your healing begin.

When Jim Dungee had his first colonoscopy, doctors found several polyps, which are a precursor to colon cancer. “Therefore, I had to come back in three years,” he said. The three year mark was back in December. Knowing the test could save his life, Jim did not hesitate to make an appointment. He even called his insurance company to make sure it was covered. “I was told as long as it was put in as a preventive procedure, it was covered 100%,” he recalled.

Jim had the test and never gave it another thought until the bills started rolling in for his free screening. “Clearly a bait and switch, I was told one thing and they did the opposite,” he said.

Here is what happened. Doctors found more polyps during Jim’s second colonoscopy and removed them during the procedure. That, according to gastroenterologist Giancarlo Mercogliano, changed everything. “When we do the procedure and we find something, it’s no longer considered preventative. It becomes diagnostic,” he said.

That distinction left Jim on the hook for all kinds of co-payments and deductibles. He got one bill for $388 dollars and another for $64. “While you’re under anesthesia, they are actually changing the way you are going to be billed,” he said.

These surprise bills are not isolated to colonoscopies according to breast surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Sabol. She sees it happening to patients who are called back when their screening mammogram turns up something suspicious. “You have to come back on a separate day for that. That procedure is then called a diagnostic test,” she said.

Some insurance plans will cover the entire cost, but many of the more affordable plans with high deductibles, will not. “It’s been a big problem because patients are going to the less expensive insurance plans,” Dr. Sabol explained.

“It’s sort of an unintended consequence,” explained MIT professor John Gruber, who advised President Obama on health care reform. According to Gruber, the plan is not perfect but it does provide free access to screening tests that many patients might not get if they had to pay for them. “It used to be it cost money no matter what. Now, it might be free and it might cost money,” he said.

Jim Dungee believes doctors need to be upfront about all the potential fees, particularly when it comes to test patients assume will be free. “I just feel so, you know, ripped off,” he said.

When a CBS producer contacted Jim’s insurance company they agreed to waive his fees, but under the rules, they didn’t have to. If you are having a screening test, talk with your doctor to make sure you understand all the potential costs involved.

The FDA’s recent study found lead in all 400 lipsticks and lip glosses they tested, with Maybelline’s Color Sensational in Pink Petal topping the list.

The news has prompted a lot of concern among women.

The FDA tells us: “In response to a number of inquiries the FDA has received regarding reports of lead contamination in lipstick, we have developed and validated a method for analyzing lead content in currently marketed lipstick. Our results do not show levels of lead in lipstick that would pose a safety concern.”

The FDA is now considering recommending limits for lead in lipstick.

Dr. Sean Palfrey, Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Boston’s Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, says, “What they are saying is we don’t want you who have been using these lipsticks for years to panic, it’s probably not harming you. However, when we are trying to make our environment as safe as we can for children, we want to take the poisons out of their environment.”

Dr. Palfrey says lead can harm children’s learning, language and behavior development, which is why he recommends pregnant women take a closer look at their lipstick, and he says moms should keep it away from their kids. He explains, “Our bodies store lead unfortunately. For instance for a mother, that lead that is stored gets mobilized when they are pregnant. A baby could be born with lead poisoning simply because a mom was exposed herself.”

Cindy Luppi, of Clean Water Action, says more needs to be done. Luppi says, “Clean Water Action/Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is glad to see that FDA is considering setting an upper limit for lead in lipstick and we urge them to do so as soon as possible. Since there is no safe level of lead exposure, the limit for lipstick should be based on the lowest lead levels that companies can feasibly achieve.

This is the same logic the FDA used in recommending a limit for lead in candy at .1 ppm — not because that level of lead is safe in candy but because that is the lowest lead levels companies can reasonably achieve with good manufacturing practices. She says, “It’s disturbing to see that L’Oreal makes five of the top 10 most lead contaminated brands, including numbers 1 and 2. L’Oreal owes it to women to do a better job keeping the lead out of their lipstick.”

L’Oreal issued this statement in response:

“The FDA’s independent study, which will be published in the May/June, 2012 issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Science, confirms that lipsticks pose no safety concerns for the millions of women who use them daily. The lead levels detected by the FDA in the study are also within the limits recommended by global public health authorities for cosmetics, including lipstick.

All the brands manufactured and marketed by L’Oréal are in compliance with FDA regulations as well as the European Union Cosmetic Directive and the requirements for consumer safety in the more than 130 countries in which our products are sold. L’Oréal maintains the highest standards for safety and consumers can use all of our products with complete confidence.”

Senator John Kerry is of the lawmakers leading the effort for more accountability. He tells us, “For years, Senators Boxer, Feinstein, and I pressed the FDA to hold these companies accountable and provide strong oversight to ensure the products our families use are safe. It’s hard to believe all these years later we’re still hearing about lead in lipstick. Consumers shouldn’t have to cross their fingers and hope that an FDA-approved product won’t put them at risk, they should know it for a fact. The FDA needs to act fast to set clear safety standards.”

Until there is more accountability, Dr. Palfrey says, “Be smart, try to find out whether it has lead in it, and try to find the safest lipstick you can.”
