Disney’s ‘Moana’ Wins Thanksgiving Weekend at U.S. Box Office

Disney’s Moana hit over $81 million over the Thanksgiving weekend. The studio put out a slue of films this year, and they just might demolish Universal’s annual box office record when the fiscal year wraps up. The hit animated film starred the voice of one of the highest paid men in Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson.

The film tells the story of Moana, the strong-willed daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with a goddess. When a blight strikes her island, making coconuts rot on the trees and fishing boats return empty, Moana sets sail in search of Maui, a legendary demigod, and hopes to save her people.
