$3 Million in One Week: “Hamilton” Just Set a Broadway Record

The Tony Award-winning musical ignited some controversy earlier this month when the cast addressed Mike Pence after he attended a performance of the show. Donald Trump called for people to boycott the show, but evidently it’s not working, as the show just set a Broadway record for the most money ever made in a single week. This is kind of a big deal.

“Hamilton” ($3,260,089) isn’t the first Broadway show to crack $3 million in one week — that distinction belongs to “Wicked,” which broke the barrier in 2013 — but “Hamilton” did it with just eight performances. The recently famed show started off being around under $100 a tickets until scalpers caused a price hike up well over $300.  That’s when they knew this was bigger than some hip hop history play. One thing is for sure. You have to see hamilton before you die.
