About 800,000 Absentee Ballots Yet to be Returned in Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Early voting is over in Florida, but vote-by-mail ballots are still coming in until Election Day.

About 800,000 vote-by-mail ballots hadn’t been returned as of Sunday — and most had been requested by Democrats.

Early voting ended statewide on Sunday. Earlier in the day, the state reported almost 348,000 Democratic vote-by-mail ballots and almost 271,000 delivered to Republicans hadn’t been returned. Another 210,000 ballots delivered to voters not registered with either major party also hadn’t been returned.

Still, about half of Florida’s 12.9 million active registered voters had cast early ballots through Sunday.

Florida’s 29 electoral college votes will play an important role in the presidential election. Voters also will decide whether Republican Sen. Marco Rubio deserves a second term or if Democratic U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy should replace him.
