Search Continues for Missing Jet Skier on Alafia River

LITHIA, Fla. (AP) — A search is underway for a missing jet skier after his 3-year-old son was found alone on a small island on the Alafia River in central Florida.

Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies tell news agencies that 38-year-old William George Morris of Riverview took his son for a ride on the personal watercraft Monday afternoon.

However, when Morris’ wife called his cellphone, the son answered the phone. Deputies say someone discovered the boy on the island just west of Interstate 75 and stayed with him until deputies arrived.

Crews searched the island and found the jet ski pulled up on the south side of the island. An adult-sized life jacket and Morris’ wallet were also found with the craft.
