Life in Prison for Man Who Coerced Girl Into Prostitution

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — An eastern Missouri man has been sentenced to life in prison for coercing a 15-year-old Illinois girl into prostitution.

Marcus Dewayne Thompson of Park Hills pleaded guilty in May to several charges in federal court in East St. Louis, Illinois. He was sentenced Thursday.

Authorities say Thompson approached the girl in June 2015 at a time when she was suicidal after arguing with her father over becoming pregnant. He promised her a modeling career, but authorities say that instead, Thompson and his wife arranged sex acts with men in Florida, Georgia and Louisiana through the website Backpage.com.

Robin Thompson was sentenced last year to 20 years in prison.
