‘Martin’ Star Tommy Ford Dead at 52

Tommy Ford played Tommy Strawn on the popular show Martin starring Martin Lawrence. It was one off the funniest show in the 90’s and you can still catch the show in syndication over 20 years after its first air date.

Tommy passed away Wednesday in an Atlanta hospital surrounded by family and friends. The news spread quickly through media outlets. Anthony Anderson, a friend of Ford, tweeted early this week that he had passed but that was quickly deleted. He was in the hospital on life support after a aneurysm ruptured on his abdomen, which was confirmed by his wife. His health had been declining since Sunday. His family decided to turn off his support yesterday.

Ford played Martin Lawrence’s best friend on the hit sitcom for all 5 seasons. He was know to be the best friend who never had a job but always claimed to be working. It was one of the funniest parts of the show.

Co-star Carl Payne arrived at Ford’s bedside on Wednesday morning. He tells us, “On behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers.” The funeral arrangements will be announced later in the week.

He was 52.
