Victim Identified Amid Details of North Charleston Shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 19-year-old man was the victim of a weekend shooting in North Charleston and have released more details about the incident.

The Charleston County Coroner told local news outlets Monday that Demarco Jones was killed early Sunday morning at a home in the city.

According to a police report, Jones suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was being cradled by his grandmother when officers arrived.

A witness told police that he and Jones were sitting outside when three shots were fired from some distance. Police found shell casings in a yard down the street.

The witness said he did not see the assailant. No arrests have been made.

It was the 20th homicide in the city this year.
