Car Thief Takes Baby on 20-Minute Joy Ride in South Florida

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Sheriff’s officials say a baby is safe after being taken on a 20-minute joyride by someone who stole a vehicle from a South Florida 7-Eleven store.

In a news release the Broward Sheriff’s Office says the incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m. Monday outside a convenience store in Pompano Beach.

The sheriff’s office used a helicopter and K-9 units to help find the vehicle. It was found abandoned with the baby still in the car seat.

Deputies say no one is in custody and no further details were immediately available.
