Hundreds Turn Out for Philadelphia Rally Supporting Police

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — More than 200 people turned out for a rally in support of police officers in northeast Philadelphia.

Waving flags, holding signs and blowing whistles, the crowd gathered near an intersection in the city’s Mayfair neighborhood Wednesday night to show they stand with the city’s officers.

The rally was inspired by the deadly ambush of police officers in Dallas and subsequent protests. It lasted about three hours.

Tempers flared briefly when a man appeared carrying a Black Lives Matter sign. Some in the crowd argued with him, but the man left after shaking hands with a woman and wishing her peace.

Several dozen people attended another rally in support of police in the city’s Roxborough section.
