We’re living in very exciting times. Tesla has finally unveiled its game changer: The Model 3. It’s smaller, sleeker and far more affordable than the top of the line Model S, which can easily cost six-figures. The long-awaited Model 3 will start at $35,000, but after government tax incentives, realistically you can get in to a brand new one for something in the neighborhood of what a boring Toyota Camry would cost – $25,000. A nicely optioned Model 3 should top out around $40,000. I think Tesla will have to build them as fast as they can because they are going to sell a lot of them.
Tesla claims a range of 215 miles on a single charge, a plenty fast zero to sixty time under 6 seconds, enough room to comfortably seat 5 adults, a 5-star safety rating and that cool feature where your smartphone or smartwatch can summon the car to drive itself to you. Very handy if you’re at the mall in the pouring rain and parked out on the back 40. I can’t be the only one who parks out in the middle of nowhere so my car doesn’t get abused in parking lots. People are already lining up to plunk down their $1000 deposits to get on the list for a Model 3. Tesla expects to have cars in people’s hands by late 2017.
