JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS Tampa)– Police are investigating after a woman was found dead on a Jacksonville road following an apparent fatal crash.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a call at about 6 a.m. and found a 42-year-old woman dead at the scene, as reported by WJAX.

Relatives of the victim identified her as Kelly Black and told Action News her dog Paco was with her at the time of the accident.

The dog reportedly stayed at the scene by the victim for hours until police and family arrived. The family says the two were inseparable.

Officials report a semi-truck hit the victim in a parking lot and dragged her to the middle of the road. Police said it appears the driver may have been unaware that he hit the woman. The driver is currently unknown and there were no witnesses.

“I don’t see how someone could hit her here and drag her all the way out to Beaver St. and not have known it,”  G.C. Bostick, victim’s father, told WJAX. “I just don’t know how I’m going to tell her mama.”
