Pierce will play a news show legal commentator who decides to run for public office in Chicago.

Fans of Dr. Niles Crane will be happy to know that it’s a recurring role, one which marks Pierce’s first appearance in a TV series since “Frasier” ended its run in 2004.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled and flattered that David’s making ‘The Good Wife’ his first TV role since ‘Frasier,’ ” Executive Producers and showrunners Robert and Michelle King said. “We’re tremendous fans of his dramatic skills as well as his comedy.”

“The Good Wife” kicks off its sixth season at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

The hit show stars recent Emmy winner Julianna Margulies, Christine Baranski, Matt Czuchry, Archie Panjabi, Makenzie Vega, Alan Cumming, Matthew Goode and Zach Grenier.
