MMQB’s Greg Bedard joined Booger and Marc to discuss the Bucs trade for guard Logan Mankins.
Bedard said this whole thing started with what Logan Mankins was making with the Patriots. There are reports that Mankins was asked to take a pay cut twice and he refused. Another part of this was the Patriots had no move TE’s and their gameplan values guys like Tim Wright.
Bedard said when he started covering the Patriots in 2010 there was nothing Mankins couldn’t do. He’s not quite at that level now but he’s still one of the best run blocking guards in the game. He’s not the best pass blocker but between his run blocking, overall play and toughness, Mankins is still extremely valuable to the Buccaneers.
Bedard said he does think that it was a good trade for the Bucs. They needed another veteran guy, especially on the offensive line, to help build their football program.
So are we looking at a playoff team in Tampa Bay? Bedard says yes. He has them taking a wild card spot in the NFC because of what Lovie Smith and Jason Licht have been able to do so far this offseason.
