Tampa, FL- Today for the USF Bulls was their photo day, however Coach Willie Taggart revealed his teams captains as voted on by the players. “Our captains on defense are Reshard Cliett, on offense Andre Davis and special teams Marvin Kloss”. Coach Taggart did say that the special teams captain would switch a few games here and there, but for the most part team kicker Marvin Kloss would be the captain. Coach Taggart further explained “I think it says a lot when we as coaches we don’t have any influence on who gets picked it’s all about their peers, like I tell our guys I think that’s the best award you can get”. Some may not know this but during his college playing days at Western Kentucky Taggart himself was a team captain “I had that privilege I believe that I talked about how most people don’t get that opportunity, I was blessed to be a team captain and it was an awesome responsibility to have.” The same night his team awarded the team captain positions Coach Taggart awarded a scholarship to a very deserving player Jordan Duvall “Jordan Duvall has been working hard he’s been consistent, he’s handled himself off the field in the classroom and he’s helped us on the field.” Coach said Jordan was extremely grateful and spoke to the team about his experiences as a walk on to the team.
Another storyline entering camp was which quarterback was going to be the starter this season for the Bulls. Last week Coach Taggart announced sophomore Mike White would be under center for the Bulls when they take the field for their first game against Western Carolina. When asked what Steven Bench had to say to him Mike said “He congratulated me, we are really good friends so we have our little jokes here and there.” Mike White actually grew up a Miami Dolphin fan and said that current quarterback coach David Reaves once worked with current Dolphin quarterback Ryan Tannehill. “My Coach, Coach Reaves actually got a chance to work with him for a little bit while he was at IMG Academy, and he actually compares him to me I think that’s an honor in itself”.
Wide receiver Andre Davis spoke on being named a team captain as well “It’s definitely great for me to be voted a team captain amongst my peers, for them to think of me as a captain I really appreciate it and I am ready for it.” Davis who is entering his senior year currently hold the record for most receptions in a single game and most yards in a single game. He also sits in ninth place all time in career receptions with 87 for 1,077 yards. Another captain for this team Reshard Cliett also echoed his teammate’s sentiment when talking about being named a team captain. “It means a lot I was kind of surprised I was thinking one of the older guys would get it. I guess everyone believes in me it’s just a great feeling for me.”
