Detective Arrested After Responding To Online Ad Offering Sex For Money

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Palatka police detective has resigned after being arrested in a St. Johns County prostitution sting.

Palatka police say 48-year-old Reno Chevelle Fells resigned on Sunday after his arrest at a St. Augustine Beach hotel on Friday night.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says Fells responded to an online ad offering sex for money and was directed to a specific hotel.

The sting operation called “Operation Summer Lovin'” resulted in 14 arrests and was organized after hotel owners complained about prostitution.

Fells ran for sheriff of Putnam County in 2012 but lost in the Democratic primary.

Police say Fells is being charged with procurement for prostitution or soliciting a prostitute. He was released on $500 bail.
