Police: Florida Pot Thieves Caught Because Plant Was Sticking Out The Window

Clearwater, Fla. (CBS TAMPA) — Two Florida men were arrested after police pulled their vehicle over for driving without the lights on, but as officers approached the car, they noticed a bundle of leaves from a marijuana plant sticking out of the cracked backseat window, according to Clearwater authorities.

Clearwater Police pulled the car over in the early hours of July 24 for driving without its headlight on near the scene of a burglary, WTSP-TV reports. As officers approached the darkened vehicle, the marijuana plant was casually sticking out the backseat window, leading them to discover that the car was loaded with several potted plants.

And “not the kind from the home supplies store, either,” Clearwater Police wrote on its Facebook page regarding the incident.

One of the two men allegedly told police they had just stolen the potted marijuana plant from an “acquaintance” at a house on South Avenue in order to settle-up a drug debt for $100.

Justin Goodloe, 20, and Allen Barnes, 19, were arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana, a felony.
