We love to waste our time watching highlight footage of great plays on YouTube and this collection consists of our picks for the 5 best baseball catches out there!

Enjoy!

5 – Logan Schafer CF, Nashville Sounds (8/20/11)

In the clip, Schafer retreats, puts his glove up to to make the catch but the ball does not cooperate. It bounces off his glove, off of his head, and through some miracle, winds up back in Schafer’s glove. The Omaha Storm Chasers’ runners thinkt the ball has dropped, but Schafer makes the throw back to second and the infield completes an 8-4-3 triple play!

4 – Father of the year (9/18/13)

This Giants fan makes a great one-handed catch off a Paul Goldschmidt foul ball while clutching his baby girl! Dad doesn’t drop the child or the ball and YouTube commenters have been locked in a battle of wits over the merits of this footage ever since!

3 – Endy Chavez LF, New York Mets (10/19/06)

With game 7 of the 2006 NLCS tied in the top of the 6th inning, the Cardinals’ Scott Rolen looks like he’s drilled a two-run HR… except Chavez makes an absolutely stunning catch. To put the cherry on top of this amazing play, the Mets outfielder is able to return the ball in time fer a double-play!

2 – Ken Griffey Jr CF< Seattle Mariners (5/29/90)

This drive by The Brewers’ Bill Spires looks like it catches Griffey in an awkward position, but the young outfielder has speed to burn and makes an unbelievable over-the-shoulder catch to rob Milwaukee of an extra-base hit!

1 – Willie Mays CF, New York Giants (8/29/54)

Willie Mays’ over-the-shoulder basket catch of Cleveland Indians’ Vic Wertz fly ball will be forever known as ‘the catch’. The ‘Say Hey Kid’ made this one look easy and it will forever be number one in our hearts. The fact that he did it with the score tied in the eighth inning of a World Series game makes it that much more amazing.
