Police: Dead Pit Bull Found Inside Floating Suitcase

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — St. Petersburg police are investigating after a dead pit bull was found inside a suitcase floating in a canal.

Someone who works near the canal spotted the blue hard shell suitcase on Wednesday evening and opened it. The gray and black female dog was inside.

Police say the dog had obvious trauma to its head and lower body.

A name written on the suitcase led officers to the home of a St. Petersburg woman who told them she’d tossed the luggage into a community trash bin about six months ago. She is not considered a suspect.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals took custody of the dog and suitcase for further investigation.

Police ask anyone with information to call the agency’s non-emergency number, 727-893-7780.
