30-Foot Deep Sinkhole Opens Up In Florida Neighborhood

SPRING HILL, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A 40-yeard wide, 30-foot deep sinkhole opened up in a Florida neighborhood on Sunday afternoon.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that county officials began investigating the hole Monday morning to determine what action to take next.

A nearby homeowner said she is planning to move. “I didn’t think I would have to move so soon,” Linda Fisher, whose half of her driveway has been swallowed by the hole, told the newspaper.

Other surrounding neighbors said they saw the hole grow beginning early Sunday morning; while others, who have not been affected by the hole, are concerned that the hole could spread to their property.

Peggy Helmick lives diagonally across from the sinkhole, and she recently dropped her sinkhole insurance because it was too expensive. “I spend a lot of time taking care of this place,” Helmick told the Tampa Bay Times. “Now it’s not worth c—, I’m going to live here for the rest of my live.”

Helmick watched as the sinkhole swallowed the road Sunday morning.

“We were watching the Earth crumble,” she said.
