(AUDIO) Dewayne Staats: A Rays Push for the Playoffs is Still Possible

Rays play-by-play man for Sun Sports joined Marc Ryan to discuss whether or not the Rays can get back into the playoff race after sweeping the Yankees.

Staats said you can get the feel that they’ve flipped the switch. There is a noticeable difference without question. Staats said that the team struggled because of a number of issues but now they are starting to find their groove.

Staats said he saw a note that no team had ever been more than 8.5 out entering July and gone on to be successful in the postseason but there have been situations where teams have made up more ground later than that in the season. The issue is trying to climb over 4 teams but it’s still possible.

Staats noted that the odds aren’t in their favor at all but it starts somewhere and the Rays so far have shown that they can play great baseball in the second half of the season.
