TAMPA (CBS Tampa) – It was a barbershop by day…that turned into a alcohol-selling illegal strip club every Saturday night; WFTV-TV reports a police raid at Super Fades in Orange County found a 17-year-old girl taking off her clothes inside the business.
Police say 42-year-old Derrick Price was arrested on charges of running an illegal strip club.
Price denies the charges. “It’s customer appreciation. I thank my customers for coming in and supporting me, that’s all it was,” he told the station.
But Lt. Mike Gibson with the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation says that agents, acting on a tip, found clear evidence of illegal activity at the location.
Undercover agents went to the barbershop on Saturday nights. “On each and every occasion they were serving alcohol and they had strippers. And
not strippers following local law, but strippers that went completely nude,” he said.
Price was allegedly collecting a $10 door fee from patrons, another charge he denied in an interview with WFTV-TV. “I wasn’t taking money for anything, I take donations,” he said.
The agents believed there was a 17-year-old girl working as a stripper. “We had to speed up our investigation quite a bit to get the juvenile out, and in fact, we did,” said Gibson.
Police raided the barbershop Sunday, and took the underage stripper into custody. She was charged with lewd acts and adult entertainment crimes. Agents are trying to find out if she was forced to work against her will.
Investigators removed a stripper pole that had been permanently installed in the barbershop.
“That would have been a piece of equipment that was there even when they operated during the day while they acted as a barbershop,” Gibson told WFTV-TV. “I’ve never gone to a
barbershop that had a stripper pole.”
Authorities expect to make more arrests in the case.
