Lightning beat writer for the Tampa Tribune Erik Erlendsson joined Booger and Marc to discuss Steve Yzerman’s trade moves during the NHL Draft and what the future of the organization is.

Erlendsson said that Steve Yzerman sent his team a message at the end of the season by saying that he expects to make the playoffs again. It was subtle but he was serious about getting the team back to where they were last season.

Erlendsson said this team needs defense and it’s hard to win without that strong defense. We saw it against the Canadiens in the playoffs. Yzerman opened up cap space with these trades and Erlendsson said when free agency opens they want a defenseman.

There are young, talented players coming up through the ranks and Erlendsson said that Yzerman had to make room for that and that’s part of the reason they moved guys like Teddy Purcell and Nate Thompson.
