BUSHNELL, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – Police say a 21-year-old man stabbed his grandmother in her sleep and then went on a beach weekend with his mother.
WKMG-TV reports that James Giles has been charged with first-degree murder for stabbing his 82-year-old grandmother, Rosa Maresma, in her sleep.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s office said that Giles texted his mother something had happed at his grandmother’s home which he was living in. The text did not go into detail as to what has happened and Giles told his mother she would find out when she got back from her business trip.
When Giles’ mother got back, Giles met up with her after killing Maresma for a “beach weekend,” according to the police report obtained by the station.
Police say that Giles told his mother that Maresma had passed away while on their way home from the beach.
Giles admitted to killing his grandmother when questioned by police. He placed a pillow over her face and stabbed her in the chest with a kitchen knife, police say Giles admitted.
Giles is currently being held without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center.
