Around the world of horse racing and beyond, it seemed that everyone was rooting for California Chrome to make history. But the coveted Triple Crown would elude him. Instead, Tonalist took the title at the Belmont. And I’ll tell you who was none to pleased. One of California Chrome’s owners, Steve Coburn, went off after the race. He called Tonalist’s win the “coward’s way out”. Was he out of line or does he have a point? Should the horses that race in the Belmont also have to race at the Derby and the Preakness?
