(AUDIO) Jay Bilas Explains Why College Athletes Need to Be Paid

ESPN college basketball analyst and advocate of paying college athletes Jay Bilas joined Booger and Rich to discuss Nick Saban’s new contract.

Bilas said he has no problem with Nick Saban’s huge contract. He just doesn’t understand why coaches are paid for the value they bring to their football teams but players aren’t.

Bilas said he would like to see the NCAA lift it’s cartel-like restrictions on players and the money that they can make while playing. He can’t understand why a billion dollar business puts such restrictions on what kind of money athletes can make while in school.

So when can we see some change? Bilas says we are starting to see it with a push from schools like Northwestern with unions. He said he thinks eventually change will be forced upon the NCAA from the outside.

Finally Bilas said he’s tired of the excuse that paying players will open Pandora’s box. To him, that box was opened when the NCAA became a multi-billion dollar industry.
