Body Of Missing SC Kayaker Found Off Florida

DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The body of a missing South Carolina kayaker have been found in the waters off South Florida.

The Coast Guard says a good Samaritan discovered the body of David Lemonds of Aiken, South Carolina. The body was found Sunday afternoon in the waters south of Port Everglades.

Authorities say local kayakers saw Lemonds leave John U. Lloyd Beach State Park on Thursday morning in a 12-foot yellow ocean kayak. Park rangers alerted the Coast Guard on Friday after seeing that Lemonds’ truck had remained undisturbed overnight.

The body was turned over to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s office. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating.
