A man in Sarasota has been sentenced to one year in county jail after pouring hot sauce on his girlfriend’s 3-month-old puppy.
According to The Herald Tribune, Ephrian Myles, 47, plead no contest in Florida circuit court and will spend one year in county jail followed by 18 months of probation for animal cruelty, the Herald-Tribune reports.
After getting upset with his girlfriend’s dachshund-chihuahua mix, Myles reportedly poured hot sauce on the puppy’s eyes and throat, prompting the puppy’s former owner to rush the dog to a nearby fire station.
In addition to his sentence, Circuit Judge Donna Berlin has also required Myles to complete anger management courses and prohibited him from owning pets, residing in a home with animals, or making any contact with the puppy’s former owner, according to the Herald-Tribune.
Gizmo, the 3-month-old puppy, has had problems with seizures in the past and was treated for neurological problems by a nearby veterinarian. Three days later, Gizmo was adopted by a new owner.
