Dad Delivers Baby On I-595 In Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida man pulled to the side of Interstate 595 in Fort Lauderdale and delivered his baby in rush hour traffic after it became apparent his wife couldn’t make it to the hospital.

When Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews arrived Thursday afternoon, the mother was holding the baby girl in her lap. Officials say the woman is a NICU nurse, who was able to walk her husband through the delivery. Rescue crews cleaned the baby up, provided a little oxygen and took the pair to the hospital.

Officials say the parents were heading from Palm Beach County to a Broward County hospital.

The mother and baby were taken to Broward General Hospital, where they are both doing well. Fire Rescue officials did not release the new parents’ names.
