NY Rape Suspect In Custody In Florida

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay area authorities have arrested a New York man wanted on child sex charges after they previously detained and released him due to procedural delays.

Pinellas Park police said Friday afternoon that 25-year-old Jesse Sawyer Jr. was in custody on an FBI warrant.

Officials in Troy, N.Y., say Sawyer raped three young children and then posed in pictures with them earlier this month.

Pinellas Park police say officers made contact with Sawyer on Thursday at an address provided by Troy police. Sawyer was “cooperative” while officers contacted the FBI to confirm the arrest warrant. But after an hour passed with no confirmation, they let Sawyer go.

A short time later, the FBI confirmed the warrant, but when police returned to the location, Sawyer was gone. Police weren’t immediately saying where they found Sawyer on Friday.
