(AUDIO) Derrick Brooks: Cutting Revis Came Down to Scheme and Economics
NFL Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks joined Booger and Rich to break down the Bucs free agency moves and preview the season for the Tampa Bay Storm.
Brooks said that the move to cut Darrelle Revis came down to two things: economics and scheme. Brooks said if you look at the Tampa 2 the Bucs played years ago, there was no need for a $16 million corner. Lovie’s system is built front to back, not back to front.
Brooks was surprised by the move to cut Donald Penn today. He said he understands the move but we don’t really know what to expect out of the offensive line this season because of the health of Carl Nicks.
Lovie Smith named Josh McCown the starting QB yesterday and Brooks said to him, that just means that McCown will get the first team reps for now. Lovie isn’t married to McCown Brooks told us and don’t be surprised to see a QB competition between he and Glennon in the offseason. Brooks also said that this doesn’t rule out the Bucs going after a QB in the draft.
