Former Buccaneers cornerback Donnie Abraham joined Booger and Rich to talk about what it will be like for Darrelle Revis to play in a Tampa 2 system.
Abraham said that a lot of people think that you always play a cover 2 zone when you play a Tampa 2 defense, but that isn’t always the case. Sometimes you play zone, sometimes you use different formations, you blitz and you even play man coverage, especially on 3rd down. The key to running a successful Tampa 2 is to have 4 horses up front that can rush the passer Abraham said.
The big question around Tampa Bay has been whether or not Darrelle Revis can fit in the Tampa 2 system and Abraham said absolutely he can. This defense is set up to create turnovers and Revis can be a guy that sticks to receivers and can get those turnovers Lovie Smith is looking for.
So if the Bucs need a great front 4 to make this system work, do they have that personnel? Abraham said on paper yes the Bucs have the pass rushers they need but that has to translate to the field. Lovie Smith could be the guy to make that happen.
