Police: Burglar Found Asleep On Couch In Victim’s Home

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A burglar was caught and arrested after police say he was found asleep on the couch of his would-be victim.

Mount Dora resident Judith Smolinski found the suspect, 26-year-old Duane Immich, resting on her couch, WFTV reports. She made the alarming discovery after she heard snoring while making herself coffee – despite the fact that she lives alone.

“I walked in the living room and there was a strange man on my couch curled up, covered up with my blanket,” Smolinski told the station. “He had one open beer on my coffee table.”

Police officers said that Immich had robbed several other businesses that night before breaking into Smolinski’s home.

When investigators arrived on the scene and woke Immich, they found he had also armed himself.

“[The officer] discovered he had my butcher knife on his chest and he was holding it with one of his hands,” Smolinski said.

WFTV learned that Immich, who has a criminal record beyond his recent crime spree, is being held in jail without bond.
