(AUDIO) Draft Expert Matt Miller: Khalil Mack Doesn’t Fit the Bucs Scheme
NFL Draft expert Matt Miller joined Booger and Rich to talk about the Bucs strategy and whether or not they will look to take a QB to push Mike Glennon.
Miller said that despite experts having the Bucs take Khalil Mack, he doesn’t think he will fit in Tampa Bay. Mack is a dominant player but Miller said he’s a 3-4 linebacker that will be a guy without a home in Lovie Smith’s 4-3 Tampa 2 defensive scheme.
With such a deep draft, Miller said the Bucs are in a great spot picking at #7. There Miller said they can get a talent like tackle Greg Robinson or a skilled wide receiver like Sammy Watkins.
Johnny Manziel is one of the more intriguing players to come out of college in recent years but Miller says that he could get a GM fired, either for taking him or passing on him. Miller said that Manziel will be like buying a lottery ticket: boom or bust.
Last season Miller said that he would hitch his wagon to Mike Glennon as the Bucs starting quarterback of the future. After nearly a full season of starts, Miller said that he still likes Glennon. He would however still draft a quarterback if he was the Bucs but would wait until the later rounds and try to scoop up a guy like Aaron Murray.
In free agency, Michael Vick is expected to be a player that the Bucs look at to bring into camp to push Glennon. Miller said that he thinks at this point in his career, Vick is just a name. He doesn’t think Vick is a good quarterback anymore and would have to reinvent himself if he wants to be a viable starter in the NFL again.
Finally, Miller said that Michael Sam was a 4th round pick in his eyes before coming out as gay and is still a 4th round pick after his announcement. He believes he needs some coaching but has a chance to not only get drafted but development into a decent player.
